CARDI is a consortium of three international NGOs, sharing the same mandate of providing support to persons affected by conflict and natural disaster: the International Rescue Committee, the Norwegian Refuge Council and Stichting Vluchteling (the Dutch Refugee Foundation). Its main office is located in Jakarta, with field offices in Aceh, Maluku, North Maluku, Central Sulawesi and Yogyakarta. Originally focused on humanitarian assistance to displaced persons in Indonesia, CARDI’s goal has now broadened to facilitate the transition of conflict-affected populations to a sustainable peace through community-based interventions, with a particular focus on livelihoods programming and youth empowerment.
This revised goal entails a change in programming orientation and approaches, moving from short-term, humanitarian interventions to longer-term, more development-oriented projects, with a stronger emphasis on community regeneration. This will also lead to the gradual transformation of CARDI into a national NGO, over the next two-three years.
