Work Experience
Working in Texmaco DPS International School,Karawang Indonesia) since 2nd Oct 2000, teaching
Environmental Studies,Science,General Knowledge and Creative Writing to Pre-primary,
Primary and middle-school students.
Other activities include:
a) Member of the Editorial Board of the school magazine “Vision” for three years.
b) In-charge of the Creative Writing Club
Tapping the latent talents of the children and moulding them into “creative” writers
and poets. Children were encouraged to discover their innate talents in writing articles,
short stories and poems
c) In-charge of Environmental Club
The club was started in the year 2002 wherein the students formed a dynamic team
of trendsetters to pave better future for planet earth. Creating clean and green environment
was the motto. We successfully launched anti-cracker campaign, save electricity, save
water campaigns by way of putting up banners, flying kites, plays and short skits.
These activities could bring positive changes in the attitude of one and all in the school.
Other eco-related activities include:
taking care of botanical and kitchen gardens wherein distinct classification of plants was shown
and explained.
d) Being House Mistress since the beginning, I have tried various innovative topics for presentation which include the value of peace and freedom/perils of caging the animals in addition to current events.
Students were encouraged to become responsible leaders.
e) Initiated Art and Craft activities for grades I,II and III to make learning fun and at the same
time improve the mortar and creative skills of the child. It was highly appreciated and was the most
sought-after activity by the young ones. Parents welcomed this as it encouraged them to utilize their (pupils’)
time in a productive way.
f)Member of the Science Exhibition Committee.
Involved in theme selection and presentations:
2001- The “Sea Project†explaining the riches of the marine world, where in we used recycled materials to build
a strong , working model that showed rigging of oil.
2003-”Ganga Project” as an anti-pollution drive. Giving Science quotes to the visitors in form of take –away
book-tags was introduced.
2004-”Camouflage” was the theme which was presented in an educative and entertaining
format along with another song presentation “Colours of Life”. Pupils were encouraged to use various
resources that included survey and recording of the sounds of animals, that proved a thrilling & learning
experience.
g) PR activities:
Arranging visits to “Jakarta Post” ( The ONLY leading English Newspaper in Indonesia)
Organized visit of Mr. GopiChand-All England Badminton Champion to the school.
Arranged Art-Excel -a meditation course for children to explore and excel their creative skills.
I) Was closely associated with Dramatics
* Environment Day Presentation in year 2002 with an appeal to all ,to protect
planet earth
* Republic Day Presentation-that included tableau of a few famous States of India.
* “Harmony”-a dance drama staged in Jakarta during Feb2004, that portrayed the profound message of
humanity and peace.
j) Planned Debate activities for classes I to V on topics which include
“Confessions of bad habits and ways to overcome them”
“Value of freedom ” and many such topics on human values, this has been my most satisfying experience as
it brought forth strong presentation skills combined with authentic and honest views of the pupils.
k) Taught Conversational English to NEC, Jababeka employees
For nearly 2 years through BBC Bekasi( Jakarta) Branch. This included oral& written skills, as well as Report-presentation. This was learning centre for a new language, Bahasa Indonesia, a foreign language that has a unique blend of Sanskrit, Hindi and local “Sunda†& “Java†dialects.
Achievements
I have more than 25 articles published in leading newspapers and magazines, to my credit.
I had interviewed famous personalities(musicians, models, magicians, painters etc, Ustad Zakir Hussain,
Pooja Batra, Sonali Kulkarni, Magician Sri.P.C.Sorcar, to name a few).In addition to these I was a regular columnist titled “ Talent-next-Doorâ€(Times of India), that featured talented people(especially students) and those undergoing incurable diseases. These articles were published in leading newspapers like the Times of India, Indian Express, etc., during the period 1990-96.
My work experience at The Singapore International School ( Indonesia )
Singapore Curriculum is known for its logical and analytical approach towards all subjects, particularly the core subjects, namely, Math, Science and English and I have had the opportunity to understand, learn and teach the same. Frankly, it was more of learning rather than teaching experience. In my tenure I had the chance to interact with the Primary level pupils who had bright, inquisitive and a questioning mind that made my teaching a challenging experience. Together we explored various creative and educative concepts in novel ways, to unearth interesting and exciting facts. Our fruitful journey involved Field trips to newspaper offices, hydroelectric Power Plants, Botanical gardens and potteries, wherein pupils could experiment and apply the acquired classroom skills. Our projects were ALWAYS integrated to bring out the best of various subjects, and APPLY them in our day to day life. One of the best ones included (Domestic) High Utility-Inventions that proved the pupils’ prowess.
Training the pupils for Speech –related activities was a regular part of my job, and students won several awards in the same during, Inter-School Literary Festivals held within and outside the school.
I was the Editor of the In-House News-letter, called the SIS-Links, that was a round up of all the school-events, past, present and future.Lay-out, design, editing, and page make-up was all done by our editorial Board that comprised of efficient colleagues, who were ideal-team mates.
Above all my previous school was a learning ground for computer skills, designing creative display activities that included attractive Bulletin Boards, and continuous update of the students’ activities. Team-work, self-motivation and professionalism were the mottos lived there.
My Educational Philosophy as a Teacher
As the famous quote goes “Knowledge or Education is the best gift to be impartedâ€. To mould the children into future torch-bearers, carrying a soft yet strong heart, logical and questioning mind, inquisitive and submissive intellect and above all a sincere and compassionate soul, are the qualities of a dynamic teacher. A true teacher is always a learner, while imparting the informative knowledge given in the books, it is essential to club it with experiential depth. Enthusiasm and zeal of students is a great inspiration to any teacher.My experiments with novel teaching methods like pictorial worksheets, “look and learn” methods encouraged the children’s imaginative and creative skills and the outcome was extremely satisfying. Constant interaction with the nature was one of the most important teaching methods I adapted which not only made them eco-friendly but also helped them develop Green fingers.
My Future Plans
Children, as all of us know, are powerhouses of talent, creativity and pure intelligence.
As teachers of prestigious educational institutes, our motto is – do not just churn out
logical thinking machines but bring out compassionate, inquisitive and responsible
students.While this movement was already initiated by many stalwarts in the field of education,
I would continue to shoulder this responsibility and foresee a bright, meaningful future for our
budding artists, scientists, writers and philanthropists who constitute our future.
